Reel Livin' Resort - Hayward, Wisconsin

Hayward, Wisconsin is extremely well known for being nicknamed “Musky Country,” as muskies are the trophy fish seemingly every fisherman/woman in the area is chasing. This nickname could also have to do with the 143 foot fiberglass musky that sits at the Freshwater Fishing Hall of Fame in Downtown Hayward. Neither of us had ever been to Hayward before our recent trip, and we couldn’t wait to explore it. When the opportunity came up to spend a week at Reel Livin’ Resort, we couldn’t have been more excited!

Bayfield, Wisconsin

Bayfield is one of our favorite Wisconsin destinations. I love that even though the town is small, there is no shortage of outdoor adventures. You can explore the National Lakeshore on the waters of Lake Superior, on the islands, or via the mainland. In this episode of On the Road with That Wisconsin Couple we dive into all of our favorites in Bayfield County—where to hike, drink local, find good eats, and explore the islands.

Our 3 Days in South Dakota

We go over our 3 days in South Dakota. We made our way to Mount Rushmore National Memorial, Wind Cave National Park, Custer State Park, and Badlands National park! It was insanely beautiful and full of great hikes. We even saw mountain goats for the first time on our trip! There were baby goats, too, and it was so cool to see. The Badlands was an incredible grand finale to our trip! Waking up in such a stunning camping area was the best! And on our drive in, we were greeted by so many bison. We had some hot weather and got in some great hikes! It’s a very fascinating place that makes for a great road trip for any Midwesterner!

Yellowstone & Grand Teton National Parks - Wyoming

We had planned to do a few hikes and drive the southern scenic loop, but after hiking the Grand Canyon of Yellowstone (so beautiful) and Mud Volcano (so cool), we were nearing the southern entrance when we saw a sign saying “Grand Teton - 7 Miles.” Hayden and I looked at each other and almost simultaneously said, “Let’s go there!” Our spontaneous time in the Tetons was short but oh so sweet. We did a hike along the shoreline and the views were spectacular. We stoped to admire those dreamy mountains time and time again.

Glacier National Park - Montana

Originally, we were planning a more glamorous honeymoon (think: hitting the European slopes). But after a bit of planning (& budgeting), we chose to do a road trip instead. After deciding to stay in the states, Hayden very quickly asked if we could go to Montana. I’m so glad we did it this way! Driving across Montana brought spectacular views that literally took my breath away! If Glacier National Park isn’t on your bucket list…add it! Today we deep dive into our 3 dreamy days in Glacier National Park. We get into everything: our camp meals, trail recommendations, how we found our free campsites, and the wildlife we saw.

Theodore Roosevelt National Park - North Dakota

Listen as we share our experiences in this underrated national park! You’ll hear all about our van rental, trying a new fast food restaurant, and the jaw-dropping moment when we saw wild horses. We will dive into our tips for this type of road trip and what we thought of the “wild west” town the national park sits near.
